CHUALAR, Monterey County — October 28, 2026. Drivers east of Chualar should check Monterey County’s road information before using Old Stage Road. The county’s 2026 reconstruction project covers the road from Iverson Road to Chualar Canyon Road and includes major pavement rehabilitation and drainage work.
What construction is planned?
The project scope describes full-depth reclamation of existing asphalt, placement of a new hot-mix asphalt surface, micro-milling, drainage repairs, pavement markings and other related roadway work. Unlike a thin surface treatment, full-depth reclamation reworks pavement material below the surface. The project is listed as No. 1159, with its bid opened July 31, 2026.
What is the published traffic schedule?
A Monterey County traffic advisory dated September 14 lists work generally from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some night work from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. The county listed the construction traffic period as September 14 through November 6, 2026, weather and operational conditions permitting. Other county notices identify specific 24-hour closure limits on parts of Old Stage Road. These are the county’s published dates, not independent evidence of a live closure at a particular intersection tonight.
What residents should know
Farm traffic, school travel and emergency access can be affected by temporary one-lane operations or detours on rural roads. Drivers should not bypass closure signs. County notices can be revised, so residents should verify the latest status before entering the corridor.
